[Opinion] Vibe wrangling

I spent the day vibe wrangling another simple application. I say wrangle because ... well, the tools often fight against you. That said the tools are quite impressive and useable for creating quick prototypes that you are willing to throw away. For $50 you can build something cheap and cheerful. Of all the tools, I quite like lovable.dev

However, they are years away from being anything close to production ready. Ignoring the issue that development (a decision making process) in the world of vibe involves handing over thinking and understanding to the machine, the output though no doubt impressive (for any non engineer) is frankly laughable to any engineer.

It reminds me of the days where people thought that once the application have been drawn on a power point slide then 90% of the work was done. Don't get me wrong, we are getting there with conversational programming. I have high hopes for this field but the interfaces, the quality of output, the temptation to just press "fix it" without any need to understand means ... well, they are good for throwaway prototypes.

That said, pen and paper still has them beat.
