[Opinion] UK values and defence

The UK has "the strength to stand by our values and our principles no matter the pressure to do otherwise". I'm very impressed by how Keir Starmer has handled this —

As Winston Churchill would say "meeting jaw to jaw is better than war" or as Macmillan later put it "jaw, jaw is better than war, war".

Since the 19th century, seeking a negotiated settlement before committing to force has been a strategic principle in British statecraft. This tradition is not one of pacifism but pragmatism.

I think it's completely justified for John Healey (our defence secretary) to call out various MPs for 'unpatriotic' behaviour. They shame our great people and our willingness to stand on principles with their squalid attempts to curry favour.
